Cloud Hands

Tai chi's calmest move, done sitting: turn slowly side to side as your hands drift and trade places. 6 slow turns.

The dark figure shows the position; orange dotted arrows show which way to move. Front-view pictures work like a mirror: copy them as if they were your reflection.

How to do it

  1. Hold one hand at face height, palm toward you, the other low by your belly.
  2. Turn your chest slowly to one side, hands drifting with you.
  3. As you turn, let the hands trade places: the low hand rises, the high hand lowers.
  4. Drift back the other way. Slow, like clouds.

How many 6 slow turns

Gentler version

Keep the turn small.

Who should skip this or take care

Move only in a comfortable range, and stop if anything hurts.

Common mistake

Turning from the neck. Turn the chest, and let the head and hands come along.
